Several years ago I started taking fitness classes at United Fitness in Augusta.  I started with the year of change and took the classes offered three days a week in the mornings with Laura James.  When I started I was simply out of shape and a complete novice.  Laura was fantastic; she always met me where I was at in my physically abilities and as I grew in my fitnesss level she was able to make the workouts more physically challenging or,”more spicey” as she called it.  In the first six months of the program I lost 25lbs but more importantly my physical health improved significantly as her student.  Laura is professional, knowlegeable, and brings amazing energy to the the workouts.  I am forever grateful to the folks at United Fitness for getting me started on my fitness journey and I would highly recommend United Fitness for anyone wanting to improve thier overall health.

Chip Sager from United Fitness trains me and another 80 year old twice a week. Chip’s high level of physical fitness is a role model. He prepares continuously changing routines for us and challenges us to be fit from top to bottom. He has a great sense of humor and he is fun to work with even when the work is hard.

Mike L, Augusta Gym

I started training three years ago with Chip Sager at United Fitness — once a week in Winthrop and then a second weekly session in Augusta. Chip knows what he’s doing, mixes up the exercise program, pushes, while keeping me from injuring myself. The gyms are neat and clean and there is a friendly atmosphere.

Chip Sager

Chip was raised in Indiana and traveled the world with the US Navy. The last ten years of his service included duties of command fitness leader/coordinator as a certified personal trainer. He retired from active duty after 24 years of service and continued working for the Navy as a survival instructor for the next ten years. He has been calling Maine “home” for 23 years, and was inspired to bring his skills to the United Fitness family working to help improve their well-being.

“As a personal trainer and group fitness class leader, I look forward to, and enjoy helping you reach your fitness goals.”

Laura James

I’m Laura, a NCSF certified personal trainer and sports nutrition specialist who loves helping our members achieve their goals while keeping things fun and diverse. My fitness journey started after highschool. I was obese, unhealthy, and unhappy. With some motivation from my sister, I began riding an exercise bike for 30 minutes 3-5 days a week. Once you see results, it becomes an addiction. With consistency and time, I lost about 100 pounds!

I would eventually find myself at United Fitness with a growing passion for kickboxing, Kosho, escrima, suspension training, and all things gym & martial arts related! Through my certifications, and personal experience I’ve learned fitness is one of the keys to being happy with yourself inside and out. Thinking about joining one of our classes? There are many amazing benefits to group fitness including having a qualified fitness expert at your disposal, the expert is responsible for planning the workout, classes add a huge variety to your workouts, they can be adapted for different abilities and fitness levels, and not to mention the group support and camaraderie!
